And now, let’s get to the heart of the matter.
The 2022 Foiling Awards categories.
There are 12 categories in the Foiling Awards: Men’s Sailor, Team, Women’s Sailor (new), Project, Production Boat, Innovation, Amateur Prototype, Sustainability, One-off Boat (prototype), Power Boat, Foiling Event, Commercial Project.
MAN VELIST.
Tom Slingsby, buoyed by an outstanding performance at the Moth 2021 World Championship in Malcesine, could not be missed. He will be up against Vendee Globe winner Yannik Bestaven and young players in the new Olympic IQ Foil class Nicolas Goyard and Kiran Badloe (also Olympic gold medalist in the traditional Rsx board)
WOMEN’S VELIST (new category)
The game is played between IQ Foil, Kite foil, Wing foil and Moth with Helene Noesmen (who also boarded Sail GP), Daniela Moroz, Olivia Piana and Josie Gliddon.
TEAM
It could not miss the couple Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti (also in contention for ourTAG Heuer Sailor of the Year 2022, to be awarded on May 12) Olympic gold in the Nacra 17 who will face tough opponents such as Alinghi who won the GC32 Tour, rather than the team Australia of Sail GP and of course Emirates Team New Zealand winner of the 36th America’s Cup.
DRAFT
It will be a very tough battle because foiling projects are multiplying. Interesting challenge between Persico’s Fly 40 and the 40-footer chosen by the New Zealanders for the America’s Cup Youth and Woman categories.
PRODUCTION BOAT
A race featuring as many as 3 Moths: Maguire, Swift Moth and Exploder
INNOVATION
A category that brings together projects still on paper: a smart foil like Taaroa and a major boat like Flying Nikka.
AMATEUR PROTOTYPE
Only two contenders: a moth and a “mini moth” built by a boy only fifteen years old.
SUSTAINABILITY.
They range from the Mini 650 built from 100 percent recyclable materials(Floki 650) to the solar-powered motor boat.
BOAT ONE OFF
Challenge among Prada Cup protagonists: Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, Ineos, American Magic, America’s Cup winner Emirates Team new Zealand, and giant trimarans Banque Populaire X and Lazartigue!
EVENT
Impossible not to mention all the nominations: America’s Cup, Sail GP, GC32 tour, P69F Series, TF35 trophy, Mondiale Moth Malcesine, Waszp Games.
MOTOR BOAT
Also here fierce competitors such as the Candela C8, the E1 Series, Mantaray and Hydrofoiler. Some are just an idea, some a ready project, some sailing.
COMMERCIAL PROJECT
A futuristic world, projected into a hopefully not too distant future that will change commercial shipping. Not an easy choice among extraordinary projects.
The photography and illustration exhibitions
The Awards will also be a fantastic opportunity to view the three photography and illustration exhibitions set up for the day inside the Theater: THE BEST OF FOIL, THE BEST OF FOILING WEEK and THE HISTORY OF FOIL.
All performances can be visited from 2 p.m. on the same day until the evening.
The ceremony will be presented by Stefano Vegliani and Hattie Rogers.
A new foiling drift project, the “Switch,” will also be presented by Luca Devoti during the evening.
Event info.
Teatro degli Arcimboldi is located at Viale dell’Innovazione, 20, Milan.
Admission to the award ceremony will be free of charge, application is required at this link:
