When a new Yacht Club is born, it is always good news. If it is then born in one of the most enchanting places in Italy, in Sardinia Costa Smeralda, with the premise “to make Cala dei Sardi live all year round” everything makes even more sense.
Yacht Club Cala dei Sardi, the road is the right one
The newborn Yacht Club Cala dei Sardi not only has one of the most beautiful and incisive pennants ever seen, it also has many initiatives that make it unique and up-to-date with the times, as a club dedicated to sailing and the sea that wants to engage its members must be today.
That the path is the right one was seen immediately. At the inauguration on April 11, which took place precisely on the Day of the Sea and Maritime Culture, the Marina of Cala dei Sardi was invaded by dozens of young people who took to the sea in catamarans, followed by a lesson in seamanship, taught by the legendary former boatswain of the Amerigo Vespucci Antioco Tilocca.
Christening the fledgling Yacht Club were on the lawn in front of the docks, there were prominent figures, founding members of the Club. As the Olympian Tania Cagnotto, the only Italian woman to have won a world gold medal in diving, Vincenzo Montella, former soccer player and now soccer coach, the former Amerigo Vespucci Commander Gianfranco Bacchi, which last year replicated, 55 years later, the famous Taranto Channel crossing maneuver performed by Adm. Agostino Straulino 1965.

Count Luigino Dona Dalle Rose, founder of nearby Porto Rotondo, was also there, chatting about the past and future of North Sardinia with Olbia Mayor Settimo Nizzi.
Of course, doing the honors were the two souls who brought YCCDS to life, Simone Morelli, who created the Marina di Cala dei Sardi eco harbor par excellence from nothing, and Alessandro Balzani, well-known sailor in charge of communications.
The new club does not start out as an empty box but already has a program full of initiatives. The fledgling Sea School already has two brand new RS Touras that will be used by members and to teach sailing practice to younger people in addition to making use of the large fleet of NSS Charter based here, with dozens of Beneteau and Lagoon catamarans and monohulls.
In Cala dei Sardi also the VELA Cup
Next August 27/28 then Cala dei Sardi will be the venue for the TAG Heuer Vela Cup, the regatta-sailing event. open to all boats, with no red tape that will be a party at sea in a spectacular sailing in the Gulf of Cugnana and among the nearby islands, and in the evening will be an awards party with rich prizes for almost everyone
An event that promises to be unforgettable.
They got Simone Morelli and Alessandro Balzani right when they stated that they want to “make Cala dei Sardi live all year round.” The path of the new Yacht Club Cala dei Sardi is the right one.
