SHAREWOOD
is a sharing economy startup that organizes peer-to-peer exchange of outdoor materials in the categories of Water, Snow and Bike sports. Basically, we are telling you about the Italian version of the sportsman’s airbnb! The product categories that Sharewood users propose and that we sailors are most interested in are kite surfing and wind surfing, not forgetting canoes, kayaks and sup. Sharewood has just concluded a funding round through the equity crouwdfunding platform, crowdfundme, and has broken every Italian record for participation in a similar campaign by raising more than 230,000 euros from more than 160 people. The operation of the platform is very simple, users, called wooders, upload the sports equipment they want to make available for rental and other users, called explorers, who are interested in renting that equipment in vacation spots, complete the transaction and rent the equipment.
Sharewood was the brainchild of a very young Piercarlo Mansueto who was in Tarifa, Spain, and caught up in the irresistible desire to surf decided to rent equipment from a girl who had some boards displayed on the beach. Piercarlo realizes, at that moment, that there is a unique opportunity to take advantage of: the possibility of creating a community of athletes who were willing to exchange equipment and thus travel lighter and more comfortable. Not only that, the real glue of this community was supposed to be the exchange of experiences and advice among the people enrolled, and that is precisely the added value of this young company, the idea of bringing people together on the basis of their common passions.
Sharewood’s world involves environmentally sustainable mobility, a universe of sportsmen and women plying sea and land to the cry of: “the best adventure to be had will always be the next one!” The startup’s team consists of a dozen or so people, many of them super-sporty women, and further additions to the Sharewood team are planned for the coming months, also in anticipation of overseas expansion, which, for now, sees the company already present in Finland and Portugal.
