There is no stopping the evolution of the Imoca 60 class with now less than 9 months to the start of the Vendée Globe. The latest Imoca 60 launched is Armel Tripon’s L’Occitane, with the Imoca 50 class debut of designer Sam Manuard, Class 40 and Mini 650 guru.
And indeed L’Occitane, while waiting to see what foils it will mount, is already showing some interesting solutions to say the least. We refer mainly to the bow volumes, which are increasingly powerful but this time with a new factor: the bow has a very high knee on the water, with a fairly flat surface underneath. This is probably yet another ploy to avoid “noose diving” one of the enemies of ocean openers, which is the bow bow swamping that loses valuable knots and puts stress on the equipment.
