To every sailor his own boat, a statement that is hard to contradict because each of us sailboat lovers has his own “fixed idea,” his own personal ideal boat. Sometimes, however, looking for them new is impossible due to lack of adequate funds, easier to rely on the world of used boats, where sometimes dreams can come true. Welcome then to another installment devoted to boats for sale, taken from
Topboatmarket
, in which we will try to profile sailors and pair them with their ideal boat.
THE SAILOR WHO DREAMS OF THE OCEAN
Some people when they watch the Volvo Ocean Race videos think : “Never!!! But why suffer like this.” Others, however, begin to fantasize, imagining themselves flying at 30 knots on an open running on ocean breakers, with the water sweeping the deck and the appendages resonating from the great speed. While making the VOR is not for everyone, dreaming of one of the iconic boats that have made racing history may be legitimate and much more possible than you might imagine. In fact, the name Amer Sport Too does not go unnoticed by connoisseurs of crewed world tours, and today the boat is for sale. In the 2001-2002 Volco Ocean Race many will remember that it was sailed around the world by an all-female crew. CHECK OUT VOR 60 FOR SALE HERE
THE SAILOR RACING BETWEEN THE BUOYS
If, on the other hand, you are passionate about racing but have no desire whatsoever to take buckets to the face for days but prefer to do it quietly between the buoys, solutions exist and the used boat market is full of opportunities. The IMX 40 for example, designed by the wizard Jeppesen, is a boat that with the right optimizations can still give great satisfaction especially in medium-light air conditions. Then there is the sailor in love with classic forms and vintage boats. For those who love timeless beauty, wooden boats, a Sciarrelli can be the dream of a lifetime. THE EXTREME CRUISER
Rolling mainsail, furling jib, mega awning, three-story villa interior volume: if the boat you are looking for must have these features, you are undoubtedly an extreme cruiser. In this case a Jeanneau 57 might be for you. Large, huge inside, relatively easy in terms of handling under canvas because it has little sail compared to boats with a sportier footprint. It is a boat with which you can make long sailings, and it really has all the useful amenities to live at sea as if you were at home. CHECK OUT THE MODEL FOR SALE HERE
YES, OKAY THE REGATTA BUT …
If, on the other hand, you can’t decide between cruising and racing, then we have to go in search of a hybrid, so-called performance-cruisers, boats that can be good for both cruising and racing. The X43 is not one of X-Yachts’ more successful boats from a performance standpoint than the Danish shipyard’s purebreds, but on the other hand it is a marine boat, very comfortable and well built. It suffers light airs, but is “overbearing” in medium to strong winds. The typical boat that can make you sail safely and do good sailing and, why not, even peep into racing from time to time. ADRENALINE AT ALL COSTS
For those who like to feel the sensations similar to those of a dinghy but to be experienced on a slightly larger boat, the world of minialturas is undoubtedly the right one. Even today, the Platu 50, a Farr project for Beneteau, are monotypes with good activity throughout the boot. Regardless of racing, it is a fun, adrenaline-pumping boat in high winds, capable of providing exhilarating sensations at the helm. It can also be an excellent school for those who failed to sail dinghies at a young age and want to catch up with the technical gap on a craft capable of giving similar sensations.
