vat-place-boatHere we had explained how to moor using the spring. Now we show you how to set sail from a side berth, when the crosswind is pushing you into the dock-a rather delicate operation. Using the central spring will again help you.

Set sail from the side berth with the spring

1_SPRING

1. Quietly remove the bow and stern lines, leaving only the spring: the crosswind will keep you parallel to the dock.

2_SPRING

2. Put into forward gear, keeping the spring. The boat begins to rotate. Make sure the jaw is well protected by the fenders.

4_SPRING

3. When the stern has moved sufficiently away from the dock, engage neutral and immediately reverse.

5_SPRING

4. Spin the spring, following the movement of the boat: if it stays on the pull, even for a short time, the stern will tend to move back toward the dock.

6_SPRING

5. Mission accomplished: your pressure on the throttle knob will be directly proportional to the intensity of the wind blowing across the boat.
