Why make it in Caprera? For the reasons you will discover on this page and because in our opinion it is the ideal place for our philosophy of “Smart Funny Sailing Race,” that is, an event where healthy competition, pure fun and natural beauty are mixed together. Isn’t that enough for you? We did more. If you want to reach Caprera by ship, we have thought of everything: as already for the 2019 edition, this year’s agreement with the Moby Lines company has been activated. Up to Olbia (departing from Livorno, Piombino, Genoa or Civitavecchia from August 16 to 21) Moby/Tirrenia ferry is 100% free for you, your crew (up to 7 people) and even your car! The same will be true for the return, Aug. 25-30.

THE WONDERS OF CAPRERA, BETWEEN HISTORY AND NATURE
Drop anchor in the waters of Porto Palma’s natural cove, use the tender to reach the dock, come and say hello (we will be there as early as Sunday 23 for registration finalization-there will even be a kiosk bar to quench your thirst!) and set off to explore Caprera. Depending on whether you feel like diving into history or crystal waters, we have designed two different itineraries for you.
IF YOU LOVE HISTORY
A little history review: on June 2, 1882, Giuseppe Garibaldi, the hero of two worlds, died at Caprera. His body lies in the so-called Garibaldi Compendium, the place where the General started his farm and built the mansion where he lived with his family members from 1856 to the year of his death. Today it is a must-see museum(http://www.compendiogaribaldino.it), to enter the minds of those who helped “make Italy.” On foot, from Porto Palma, it takes about half an hour.

If you decide to visit the compendium pass through the village of Stagnali (10 minutes from Porto Palma), a little gem awaits you, namely the Museum of the Sea and Maritime Traditions . The museum features photographs, documents and objects, as well as everything related to the recovery of local ancient culture, which is inextricably linked to the sea and what is related to it. Through a chronological path, an attempt is made to reconstruct-through the knowledge recovered thanks to the help of many people, who have been custodians of this culture-the compel history, in a simple and straightforward way, of the Magdalenian community and the Archipelago, starting from the Neolithic to the present day.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR RELAXATION
At Caprera you will feel like you are in paradise. Blue water, yellow rock, Mediterranean scrub. Once you get off at Porto Palma, we recommend that if you want some relaxation and don’t feel like “banging around,” lie down on the beach east of the pier.
If, on the other hand, you want to conquer a rejuvenating bath after a bit of trekking, know that a few dozen minutes’ walk to the southeast will take you to such splendid places as Cala Conchiglia, Cala degli Inglesi, Spiaggia i due Mari and Cala Caprese. Also unmissable Andreani Cove and the Wreck Beach, famous, in addition to its fine white sand, for the presence on the shore of a skeleton of an ancient coal-carrying ship that was run aground after a fire broke out on board.
The TAG Heuer Vela Cup IN PILLS.
Who can participate
Any type of boat of any size, with no restrictions on age, bureaucracy, technical complications, with rankings based on length. No need for a tonnage certificate.
Rankings
In homogeneous groupings by length into two categories, “cruising class” (white sails, excluding Code 0) and “racing class” (Code 0, spi, gennaker, etc.).
Then there will be a special ranking for “vintage” boats divided into “vintage” (built before 1969) and “classic” (built before 1988.
Awards
Brace yourselves because this is just a sneak peek and all the prizes up for grabs (for almost all participants) we will reveal to you very shortly. We only anticipate that prizes will be awarded to the top three in each grouping in the two categories “cruising class” and “racing class,” prizes to Vintage boats in the two categories “vintage” (built before 1969 and “vintage” (before 1989). Awards will also be given to thehe first runner-up with the best performance (calculated by a secret handicap system) among all participating boats; the first in real time of the “cruising class” and “racing class” categories; the most elegant boat (Gentlemen Yachting prize); and as we anticipate there will be a prize for the last runner-up as well, as in the verse spirit of VELA Cup.
