VOTE FOR YOUR SAILOR OF THE YEAR NOW

Let’s see how it’s going, the top ten and the “hot” zone, that is, the coveted 30th place.

THE TOP TEN

1ST ANDREA BARBERA, 2167 VOTES
Great success in this first phase of the 40-year-old from Agrigento who completed the circumnavigation of Sicily aboard an uninhabitable 5-meter catamaran. He grinded out the 500-mile route (clockwise from the port of San Leone, Agrigento) in 18 days and 12 stages.

2ND NICOLA ABIMBOLA AND LUDOVICA FESTINO, 2062 VOTES
Lots of votes and a good social “battage” for them. They took a hat trick in the Italian Youth Hobie Cat 16 Championship, held in September in Bari, Italy. Nicola Abimbola and Ludovica Festino won the class title, both overall, Under 21 and mixed crew.

3RD CATERINA DEGLI UBERTI AND GIULIA ANCILLOTTI, 1944 VOTES
In third place were the two Hobie girls. A true masterstroke by Caterina Degli Uberti (CdV Roma) and Giulia Ancillotti (CV Dervio) who took a fine bronze medal in 2019 at the Women’s Hobie 16 World Championship on Captiva Island in Florida.

4TH ELIO SOMASCHINI, 1510 VOTES
The story of the 70-year-old navigator and physicist born in Seregno (Monza Brianza) and raised in Brazil is incredible and highly successful: on his First 40.7 Crapun has been around the world 20 years, without instruments, using his hand as a sextant.

5TH ALICE RUGGIU, 1402 VOTES
An excellent year in 2019 for the young kiter who took first place at the Italian TT:R youth championship, as well as the Italian Big Air championship and the Italian Freestyle championship in the women’s category.

6TH POLITO SAILING TEAM, 966 VOTES
The feat for the Turin Polytechnic student group came with their victory in the 1001 VELA Cup with the prototype skiff Fenix, which the team built using 75 percent of its weight in recyclable materials.

7TH MARTA MONGE, 855 VOTES
A debut in the Olympic class of RS:X sailing boards worthy of honor was that of Marta Monge (CN of Finale) who managed to climb to the top step of the podium in 2019 at the Italian Youth Championships.

8TH DAVIDE ZERBINATI, 828 VOTES
With the boat built in his family’s shipyard, the 54-foot aluminum Aluaka, shipbuilding “guru” Davide Zerbinati took away a fine oceanic satisfaction by winning the ARC Plus in the monohull division.

9TH FABRIZIO OLMI AND DAVIDE DI MARIA, 796 VOTES
Milan Paralympic sailors Fabrizio Olmi and Davide Di Maria, won the gold medal aboard the RS Venture class at the 2019 Para World Sailing Championships in Spain. World champions!

10TH SOFIA RENNA, 714 VOTES
She started the 2019 season by winning the Med Cup Windsurfing in Marseille in the Techno 293 class, Under 17 women’s category, and closed it with an excellent Italian title, which was well deserved.

Lucius Micheletti

THE OTHER QUALIFIERS (FOR NOW)
Of course, this is a provisional ranking: among the widely qualified for the second phase, for now, are big names such as Ambrogio Beccaria, Marco Gradoni, Vittorio Bissaro and Maelle Frascari, and Patrizio Bertelli. In 30th place, designer Lucio Micheletti (357 votes) of Micheletti & Partners rounds out the qualifiers: he oversaw the interior and exterior design of the Baltic 142 Canova, arguably the most cutting-edge cruising boat launched to date.

HERE THE COMPLETE RANKING

HOW TO VOTE.

The challenge is still long, very long, the first round of voting will close on March 15, 2020 at 12 noon. As a reminder, the 30 top-rated candidates move on to the next stage: you can cast a maximum of three votes per stage in support of your favorite candidates. For security and authentication purposes, you will be asked to enter your e-mail inbox before voting: you will then have to enter a simple “captcha” (the security code to distinguish between humans and bots). At the beginning of each new phase, the votes received by candidates will not accumulate but will be reset. The principle of “cumulability” will only apply to the awarding of the “Most Voted” prize. Those who vote can immediately take advantage of a code to subscribe to the Sailing Newspaper at a 20% discount! For clarification and info on voting, email speciali@panamaeditore.it
