With an avalanche of votes on the velistadellanno.giornaledellavela.com website (30,000!), the first phase of the TAG Heuer Velista of the Year has concluded. Among the 100 nominees, the 30 highest vote-getters passed the round, which you can vote for again on the website from 1 p.m. March 18 until April 15-the top 10 will enter the final round. Please note that you can express a maximum of three preferences, either to be given to a single candidate or to be distributed among several candidates of your choice.

THE MOST VOTED FOR NOW IS HIM

Who was the most voted in the first phase? Andrea Barbera, with 2,801 votes. So many, which were followed by hundreds of comments and certificates of appreciation. They did not expect such an uproar around the 40-year-old from Agrigento, Italy, who made the solo tour of Sicily aboard a 5-meter uninhabitable Class A catamaran. He grinded out the 500-mile route (clockwise from the port of San Leone, Agrigento) in 18 days and 12 stages. Perhaps the Sicilian skipper’s secret lies in his own words, “After years and years of following the exploits of great sailors around the oceans such as Vittorio Malingri and Matteo Miceli, I decided to test myself as well. But there is no sporting feat here. I did it primarily for myself.”

Below you will find the rankings of the 30 top-rated candidates from the first phase.

HOW TO VOTE.

The challenge is still long, very long, the second round of voting will start on Wednesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. and close on April 15, 2020 at 12 noon. As a reminder, the 10 candidates with the most votes advance to the next round in the second phase: you can cast a maximum of three votes per phase in support of your favorite candidates. For security and authentication purposes, you will be asked to enter your e-mail inbox before voting: you will then have to enter a simple “captcha” (the security code to distinguish between humans and bots). At the beginning of each new phase, the votes received by candidates will not accumulate but will be reset. The principle of “cumulability” will only apply to the awarding of the “Most Voted” prize. Those who vote can immediately take advantage of a code to subscribe to the Sailing Newspaper at a 20% discount! For clarification and info on voting, email speciali@panamaeditore.it
