by Sea Time – The Clocks of the Sea
The Aquaracer collection draws inspiration from sailing and water sports, which have always been an important reference for
TAG Heuer
.
In 1967 Intrepid won the America’s Cup in Newport, Rhode Island. It is an important date not only for sailing, but also for watchmaking. Yes, because to have made an important contribution to the victory of the American 12-Meter International Tonnage, led by skipper Emil “Bus” Mosbacher Jr. Has been a Heuer timepiece.
The crew had been provided with the Heuer Aquastar Regate, which proved to be a crucial tool during the regattas. A milestone that was not reached casually, but represents the consecration of a journey that began in 1895, when Heuer patented one of the first waterproof cases for pocket watches.

The secret winning ingredient is called innovation, behind the Aquaracer collection, the timepiece that reinforces the bond between TAG Heuer and the sea. First appearing on the scene in 2003, the line has won the pulse and, more importantly, the trust of many water sports enthusiasts.
In 2016, the Aquaracer, while keeping some staples such as the unidirectional unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel in the shape of a dodecagon and the screw-down case back engraved with a scaphander, introduces some important updates. Starting with the case diameter increased from 41mm to the current 43mm. In addition, the slightly restyled ceramic bezel has been given a place on the engraved, silver lacquered numerals.
Also new is the presence of a magnifying glass at 3 o’clock at the date window. Anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects a dial offered in shades of blue and black on which hand-applied polished faceted indexes stand out; polished faceted hour and minute hands; while the seconds hand features a colored tip with SuperLuminova™.
Water-resistant to 300 meters, the Aquaracer is powered by the famous Caliber 5, a self-winding mechanical movement. Rounding out the features of this timepiece is the option of pairing it with a polished and satin-finished, 3-row steel bracelet with a polished steel folding clasp.
