Ambrogio Beccaria Balduzzi
told us some time ago, in a splendid article, about the vicissitudes during his first thousand miles in the Atlantic to qualify for Les Sables-Azores-Les Sables. Having completed his baptism in the Atlantic, he took to the starting line in the Vendée to challenge his French colleagues aboard his Mini 6.50 Alla Grande Ambeco (By the way: look at the “messes” he made to get this boat!): once again, he showed character and pugnacity in the first leg taking third place out of the 19 remaining 6.50 series minis in the race, behind Tanguy Bouroullec on Keris – Cerfrance and Thomas Dolan on Offshoresailing.fr. There is cause for hope in view of the 2017 Mini Transat!

WHAT A REGATTA!
Ambrose was the protagonist of an exciting duel with Henri Lemenicier (LPO – Agir pour la Biodiversitè) overtaking him in the last two hundred meters separating them from the finish line by only 48″! Ambrose’s choice to hoist a Code Zero gennaker for the final sprint proved decisive for the podium. After the start, in the coastal stretch, Ambrose had taken the lead in the series fleet for a couple of days and then always alternated in the leading group of the first four boats without ever making any mistakes.

In the rear, Simon Bénaïchouche on La Boulangerie Marie soon had rudder problems and was forced to return to Les Sables but the rest of the mini 6.50 fleet remained full. Since Friday, July 29, the anticyclone began to strengthen over the Azores and as a result winds weakened to 5-3 knots creating just in the last stretch of the regatta a nerve-wracking situation for sailors but full of excitement for all sailing enthusiasts.

WE START AGAIN ON THE 9TH. BONA DEFEATED BY LIPINSKI
The second stage will start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, returning from Horta to Les Sables d’Olonne. The first finishers are scheduled for August 15-16 while the awards are scheduled for Saturday, August 20. The other Italian competing, Alberto Bona, finished on his Promostudi-La Spezia proto in second (and last) place on the first leg, behind the fast Ian Lipinski (Griffon Fr).
