By now you know. The VELAFestival, May 5-8, 2016 in Santa Margherita Ligure, is not just a social event or yet another boat show, but a time where enthusiasts, professionals and sailors come together to speak the same language, that of passion for the sea and for sailing.
So already today preparations are in full swing in the editorial office of the Sailing Newspaper to transform our daily reality of paper, digital and Internet into a real and tangible event, where everything we tell you about is there, to be touched, to be seen. So that you can meet us and make yourselves protagonists of our great sailing celebration. We are mixing the ingredients to make this a unique event.
Here are the ingredients we are working on: the best of the production of shipyards from all over the world; the “cult” boats that have made yachting history; dinghies and “small” boats; accessories, equipment, clothing and sails to be purchased directly; the services for boating and Mediterranean tourism at 360°; practical exercises in seamanship and sailing school for young and old. And then, as befits a festival worthy of the name, the big events such as the awarding of the Sailor of the Year and the VELAFestival Tribute, meetings with great sailors and those with experts, videos and films of great sea stories, and great photo exhibitions telling stories of men, boats, and adventures.
But the party is not only on land and dock. Awaiting you most of all is the VELA Cup, following the success of last year’s edition with 148 boats at the start and 1,200 sailors, the sailing event where boats of all kinds, from three meters and upward, simply declaring the length over all and the distinction between “cruising” and “racing” classes, are compared.
The VELAFestival 2016 takes place again this year in an exceptional location, Santa Margherita Ligure, one of the most fascinating, characteristic and surprising natural harbors and seaside town in Italy and the Mediterranean, easily accessible from all over Italy, a stone’s throw from Portofino and in the center of the mythical Tigullio Gulf.
