Three days of love for the sea and sailing, with triangle and coastal courses, with a Challenge Trophy to be awarded to the boat that has excelled over the three trials. The TAG Heuer VELACup proper, with a dedicated awards ceremony, will take place. Saturday, July 25. All in compliance with current Covid 19 regulations.
We talked about it with Alberto Cossu, who takes care of the organization of the event for the Giornale della Vela, and with Andreas Albeck, TAG Heuer Italy Marketing Director, who tells us, “In the VELA Cup there is a passion for doing something, and that is important to us. Sailing and boating have a very close connection to our vision, just think that modern navigation was born out of the time factor, and our timepieces, race watches, and all our technological efforts bear witness to this shared vision.
But our interest in the world of sailing is not only toward racing, as in the case of our connection with the America’s Cup that we won with Oracle, but toward the whole world of sailing also and especially that of the sailors who go sailing every weekend to feed their passion, as with the VELA Cup in whose spirit we completely identify,” Andreas Albeck told us.
“This will be a special VELACup because it represents the return to the sea,” Alberto Cossu echoes him, “but it will not be only on the sea, there will be the area with the stands of the exhibitors of accessories, clothing and brands related to the nautical world, because this weekend will not be only, so much, VELA Cup, but there will also be the VELAFestival with the best of nautical brands.
We are also organizing a VELACup Beach&Bar so that we can cool off at the end of our days at sea, perhaps right on the beach,” Cossu explains, who continues: “on our website
www.velacup.it
there is a page called VELACup Covid 19 where protocol updates for the event will be available. The briefings and award ceremonies will be live, they may be limited to a controlled number of people according to current regulations, but all information will then be in the official event documents updated with the latest arrangements,” concluded Alberto Cossu. See you in Chiavari!
