The anchor is the guardian of our boats, the one who will let us sleep sound dreams on a cruise, a faithful ally of anyone who goes to sea. In order for this valuable tool to work at its best, however, certain common sense rules and a series of technical operations must be followed in order to put the anchor in a condition to work properly. In fact, we can speak of a real anchoring technique, with precise procedures and evaluations, that will enable us to give bottom effectively and maintain the chosen position for a long time. Before that, we need to choose the anchor best suited to our needs and the characteristics of the boat it will be working on, equip it with a certain amount of chain, and remember to always keep a spare one on board in case of loss of the main anchor or severe bad weather. Having said that, let’s go into the specifics of what characteristics our anchor should have and especially how to make it perform best with proper anchoring technique.
