Seven tips for a different cruise wandering between Liguria and Tuscany

tuscanyThis year will be under the banner of so-called proximity vacations. We give you seven tips (and tidbits) for your cruise along the coasts of Liguria and Tuscany, to rediscover them at their best…

Blackboard_House_Coal_01CARBON HOUSE
Lavagna, Liguria A fin de siècle mansion protected by the Fondo Ambiente Italiano (FAI) that faithfully and warmly preserves the domestic atmosphere and taste in living of a bygone era. Wall temperas and lively terrazzo floors accommodate art objects, ceramics and furnishings that make up an intimate and lively setting for an important nucleus of paintings from the 17th-century Ligurian school.

1MonterossoMONTEROSSO ROADSTEAD
Cinque Terre, Liguria Near the center of Monterosso, a village in the Cinque Terre in the province of La Spezia, is the Porto di Levante, a small harbor that juts out from the coast to the E of the village and against which a large quadrangular tower is conspicuous. You can give bottom nearby or in front of the beach in 1-3 meters of water on sand and rocks, good tenor. Ideal if you want to discover an area that is still not valued enough, compared to its beauty.

Capraia_calarossa_001RED COVE.
Capraia, Tuscan Archipelago Take Punta Zenobito, the southern end of Capraia, as a reference: on its northeastern side opens this cove, about 100 meters wide and a fascinating landing, made unique by the contrast between gray rock of volcanic origin and the bright red basalt. Be careful, however, the backdrop is bad keeper. This is also why it is considered a fair weather anchorage, if not suitable only for spending the day, aiming to shelter overnight in the harbor or in the bay in front, where there is also a safe and convenient buoy field.

fernsFERN BEACH
Elba Island, Tuscany A little gem that has remained intact over time. is in fact a still wild cove where the presence of man has not altered the ancient balance and where it is possible to fully enjoy quiet and relaxation. From here it is possible to glimpse the panorama of the southwest coast of the island. The beach is completely free, there are no bathing establishments or rentals, while a bar has recently opened. It is a sandy beach mixed with small pebbles. On the right side of the beach a cliff forms a kind of pool.

Vineyard on Elba IslandTHE WINE OF ELBA
Elba Island, Tuscany At one time vine cultivation was the main activity on the island: in recent decades the land devoted to agriculture has shrunk, but the level of wines has improved considerably. Aleatico, rosé, ansonica, red, you are spoiled for choice.

imgOSTERIA DEL NOCE
Elba Island, Tuscany A piece of Liguria on Elba Island in the hills of Marciana Castello, above the eponymous Marciana Marina. From the port it is a quarter-hour cab or bus ride. The view is breathtaking, and the two Ligurian owners of Osteria del Noce mix their region’s cuisine with Tuscan and Sardinian. You can have chestnut gnocchi with ricotta and bottarga and antipasto del leudo, then a nice Ligurian-style pagello. To finish, crema catalana, spending about 30 euros each. Tel. 0565 901284

beach-of-chala-smallSMALL BEACH
Argentario, Tuscany This is a beautiful sandy bay located 2 miles south of Punta Cala Grande, on the Grosseto coast of Argentario, and within which it is possible to give bottom in front of the beach. The sandy shore of Isola Rossa, located a little further south, is also very beautiful. From here you can set out to explore the beauty of the towns of the Tuscan promontory, from Port’Ercole and Santo Stefano.
