Offshore sailing starts again from Riva di Traiano, where the 2021 edition of the Rome for All, for Two, for One, valid as a leg for the Italian Offshore Championship, got underway. The course is as usual: start at Riva, gate at Ventotene, Lipari to be used as a natural buoy, and return to Riva for the finish line.
Twelve boats entered in the Per Tutti category, where the favorite for line honors is the Cookson 50 Kuka 3, which already immediately after the start is leading the fleet in the approximately 15-20 knots of sirocco in which the boats are sailing right now. Keep an eye on Nino Merola’s Swan 42 Scheggia, with Alberto Bona and Cecilia Zorzi aboard, for the handicap win.
Instead, 11 boats are racing in the category for two, reserved for doubles crews. Here the battle for the lead of the fleet in real time will be drawn, as there is no boat that can theoretically make the gap. However, the Comet 45 Libertine, a veteran of the regatta, and the Swan 48 Mia are among those being watched for both line honors and rating rankings.
Another 12 boats registered for the shortened course, the Shore for All and for Two, will return to the finish line after passing Ventotene.
The weather forecast after a muscular start predicts a big wind hole over the Aeolian Islands that will be a major headache for tacticians and sailors.
