The dreaded Fastnet showed its milder face this year, giving the fleet of 400 participating boats a fairly easy edition weather-wise. Light wind at the start, gradually strengthening thereafter but at wide angles along the Celtic Sea ascent, fresh wind at the carrying gaits on the return to Plymouth. An edition where strategy weighed a little less (several single-board stages of pure speed) and more on boat tuning.

For the IRC overall, which awards the Rolex Fastnet Race, victory went to David and Peter Askew’s VOR 70 Wizard, second place for Bretagne Telecom, Nicolas Groleau’s Match 45, third place for Tala, David Collins’ IRC 52. In the X2 classification success for Leon, Jean Pierre Kelbert’s JPK 10.30, second place for Nigel de Quervain Colley’s Sun Fast 3300 Fastrak , third for Louis Marie Dussere’s JPK 10.80 Racing Bee. Best Italian was Pietro Moschini’s Cookson 50 Endlessgame, which finished in 25th place out of more than 300 boats.

Among IMOCA 60s success of Jérémie Beyou’s Charal, second Kevin Escoffier’s PRB, third Clarisse Cremer’s Banque Populaire. For Giancarlo Pedote a good tenth place with good miles in the safe for Vendée Globe qualification.

Among Class 40s victory for Luke Berry’s Lamotte – Module Création, second place for William Mathelin-moreaux’s Beijaflore, third for Catherine Pourre’s Arendil with Italians Pietro Luciani and Alberto Riva aboard.
