Eleva Yachts’ new Forty Two is reality and has seen the water in Pesaro, where she also held her first sea trials in which we participated. The new addition is in the “Eleva style” and very much reflects both the identity of the shipyard and that of its designer, Giovanni Ceccarelli. A boat that we could call out of the chorus, with a bold and very distinctive aesthetic and a sport cruiser philosophy.
A boat whose main goal is certainly to sail well and offer a certain kind of feeling on board, a feeling that is also about performance and not just comfort.
There is no shortage of original solutions, from the line of the deck with a slight wave reminiscent of that already seen on The Fifty, to the solution designed for the aft cabins, which enjoy the natural light provided by the continuous windowing obtained from the cockpit benches.
One of the strengths of The Forty Two is the construction, the boat is made with vinyl ester and epoxy resins, vacuum-infused and carbon-reinforced, with composite bulkheads directly facetted to the structure, and the end result is a hull that is light, just over 7 tons, and rigid.
The version we tested is the Mediterranea version, with square top and split backstay, for a sail plan that knows how to be powerful and responsive even with little wind as we saw during our test during which the boat showed very interesting speed cues. The Ocean version will be even more cruising-oriented and with a “quieter” sail plan.
