Don’t forget about recreation! We made a plea a week ago(CLICK HERE) and now we reiterate it: it is most important that legislators do not make a big deal out of turning boats (at all levels) into a sport. It is often small bureaucratic mistakes that do enormous damage, and we boaters know this very well.

Boating, before it is a sport, is for many, many, boaters like a second home. And as such it should be “regulated.” At the end of the lockdown, just as second homes will be granted access to second homes in the same way recreational boats will have to be granted access.

Where does our concern come from?

At the analysis of government technicians these days is the easing of restraint and social distancing measures in preparation for “Phase 2” with a partial return to normalcy. As reported in a Repubblica article, there will soon be a return to sea sports “also strong on the advice of scientists that in water any viral load would dissipate. No problem for solo swims, single or at most two (remote) sailing trips.”

Therefore, we want to mention that there are different types of sailboats.

  • Dinghies are assimilated to sport boats.
  • Pleasure boats, on the other hand, are real homes (first or second, it matters little)!

It is essential, to safeguard boating in Italy, that recreational sailboats have the same value as a house.

Meanwhile, the situation is moving…

Now that the pressure is starting, slowly and responsibly, to come down there are regional ordinances like the one in Emilia-Romagna that loosen the quarantine somewhat. On-board work (maintenance) is allowed only if rendered by third parties. Also possible in the region will be, again for shipbuilding, the activity of “warehouse delivery” and those activities preparatory to moving from the shipyard to the berth or activities aimed at delivery. All this will have to be done, however, after notifying the Prefect.
