“Please build the boat of my dreams.” This is the phrase every major shipyard would like to hear from a shipowner. And this is what happened to Royal Huisman, approached by a very wealthy Asian client, for whom they started building a modern three-masted schooner with a length of – brace yourselves – 266 feet. That is, 81 meters. The longest yacht made by the Dutch shipyard and among the world’s top 10 by length. The cost, estimated – brace yourself again – is 90 million euros (1.1 million per meter!). Delivery is scheduled for 2020.
THE NUMBERS OF THE DREAM BOAT
The boat, made of aluminum, was designed by designer Mark Whiteley in collaboration with Dykstra Naval Architects. It will be 81 meters long, 12 meters wide , weigh 1,150 tons and have a draft of 6 meters. It will be able to accommodate 12 people and a crew of 13 members: maximum speed, according to VPP, is 21 knots. Let us know what you think, in the meantime at the bottom we show you the list of the ten longest boats ever built in the Netherlands (remember that the longest sailboat in the world is, for now, Philippe Starck’s controversial “A” – 144 meters) and “our” Maltese Falcon is in fifth place with its 88). Some are splendid, some less so, the fact remains that looking at them (and dreaming) costs nothing…
