Yesterday, a statement came out from Assonautica (an association currently made up of 20 Chambers of Commerce, 35 provincial Assonautics and one regional Unioncamere) titled “Charter: no special restrictions to date” (TEXT HERE.): the communication caused a “revolt” of rental operators who retaliate with a statement, signed by 110 companies, in response to that of Assonautica emphasizing the limits to the activity imposed by ministerial guidelines and the importance of correct information. Here it is:

“Regarding Assonautica’s statement-“CHARTER: NO PARTICULAR RESTRICTIONS TO TODAY”-signed yesterday by Vice President Marino Masiero, those in the industry cannot but disagree with what was said, probably due to a lack of knowledge of how our companies work and the issues of renting and leasing.

Those who have been directly informed of the progress of the handling of ministerial guidelines, and not hearsay, are aware that the draft included a limit of one boardable person for every 1.5 meters in length. Limit then lowered, certainly not by those who evidently ignored it, to only 1 meter.

It is just one of the limitations to the activity, which as you can see exist, although this is for the most part manageable.

A second and heavier limitation concerns the impossibility of accommodating two non-cohabiting persons in the same cabin. Such as are a divorced father and children living with their mother, or two young boyfriends or a couple of friends. This is also apparently ignored by Dr. Masiero. In this regard, it is barely worth mentioning that Assonautica itself, in a public letter addressed to the government, had called for equating the boat with the house. It is hard not to see the affinity between the two.

Moreover, since these are decisions that have already been made and are evidently the result of the work of the past weeks, it is most paradoxical that in the same communiqué the President of Assonautica announces that “we are therefore composing a dossier to bring to the working table.”

We believe that our industry deserves much more attention, especially from those who do not know it thoroughly and do not represent it, and operators should be informed in a timely manner. To say that there are no special restrictions is to expose-just them, not those who merely write press releases-to risks and penalties.”
