It was the dress rehearsal before the Vendée Globe that will start in November, and Giancarlo Pedote passed it with flying colors. The Vendée-Artique was the 3500-mile solo race, starting in Les Sables, a virtual buoy northwest of Iceland, the Azores to be left behind, and an anchor finish in Les Sables d’Olonne.
On the water were all the latest generation Imoca 60s apart from Hugo Boss, plus all the hulls that have since been updated with the latest trendy foils. Pedote with Prysmian certainly did not start out among the favorites, but the eighth place finish taken about five hours behind winner Charal by Jérémie Beyou is a really good sign ahead of the round-the-world race. Behind Beyou, who finished with a time of 10 days, 5 hours, 14 minutes and 8 seconds, came Charlie Dalin’s Apivia and Thoms Ruyant’s Linked Out on the podium, at the end of a close duel that will be repeated at the Vendée Globe.
