About two hundred boats frame the TAG Heuer VELA Cup, Saturday, May 7, in Santa Margherita Ligure, the big sailing event of the VELAFestival, a spectacle at sea not to be missed.
A regatta/sailing race that takes up the successful formula of the Adriatic Barcolana, open to all boats of all sizes and shapes, with no age restrictions or technical complications, with rankings drawn up by length. Everyone can participate. The more relaxed “white sails”-without spi and gennaker-and the more fierce crews who want to compete by exploiting the full potential of the boat and crew capabilities.

EVERYONE CAN PARTICIPATE
Space for all boats, open and cabin cruisers, monohulls and multihulls, without age limitation, without use of rating certificate (IRC/ORC/CIM) from 3 meters with division by length overall, in two categories, “cruising class” (white sails) and “racing class” (spi, gennaker, etc.).

THE COURSE IN THE GULF
The VELA Cup course is coastal, in the beautiful Gulf of Tigullio, starting and finishing in front of the shores of Santa Margherita and passing in front of Portofino. The start, on May 7 at about 11 a.m., in front of “Santa,” continue to the buoy in front of Portofino and head to the far end of the Gulf of Tigullio, toward Sestri Levante, and then back to Santa Margherita, for a total of 15 miles. Depending on wind direction and intensity, 4 routes to cope with any eventuality.
RANKINGS AND PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers in each classification, which are:
– overall “overall” ranking for all boats (excluding multihulls)
– overall ranking “cruising class” (white sails/ excluding multihulls)
– overall ranking “regatta class” (spi, gennaker, etc./ excluding multihulls)
The award categories will be divided as follows:
up to 7.50 m; class: 7.51 to 9.50 m; class: 9.51 to 11 m; class: 11.01 to 13 m; class: 13 to 15 m; class: 15 to 19 m; class: over 19 m (MAXI).
Special rankings will also be drawn up for the categories:
– Vintage boats (construction before 1950 with any construction material)
– Classic boats (construction before 1975 with any construction material)
– #plasticfantastic (construction between 1965 and 1999 in fiberglass)
– Open boats (without cabin, excluding multihulls)
– Monotypes (same model from a single site)
– multihulls
In addition to the above prizes, more will also be awarded plus the Special “Gentleman Yachting” Award, intended for the boat that has distinguished itself by elegance and style of the crew and yacht, regardless of the size and age of the boat. Even the last one to arrive in real time will have merit: he or she will receive a special prize.
In the end there will be over 50 boats awarded this year. But that’s not all, the big news is the products that will be raffled off by VELAFestival exhibitors. Let’s look together at what can be won. Available berths at the Santa Magherita dock are practically sold out but you can decide to anchor in the bay. With a tender service we help you get ashore. There are many nearby ports in which to find moorings, in Portofino, Rapallo, Chiavari, Lavagna, Sestri Levante.
