He was among the big stars of the TAG Heuer VELA Cup Summer in Santa Margherita. Her head-to-head finish against SuperNikka had everyone trembling. After a battle to the last gybe, the 80-foot Maxi Ourdream-Rigoni of Asiago, with Mauro Pelaschier at the helm-cut the finish second. It was a close battle from the very first edges, a match-race perpetrated throughout the race (62-foot SuperNikka versus 80-foot Ourdream, the first younger by 20 years), until, with two hundred meters to go, the recovering 80-foot Reichel Pugh exploded the gennaker, effectively leaving the way clear for Lacorte and co.
We can expect the same emotions in Porto Rafael: the Maxi Ourdream has indeed confirmed its presence and will be on the starting line along with small and large boats ready to get ahead of everyone in the slalom among the islands and islets of the La Maddalena archipelago. The sailing festival of the summer is thus enriched by one of the Meditarranean’s most famous and successful boats.
A vessel with a remarkable history behind it.
An 80-foot maxi yacht launched in 1993, designed by Reichel&Pugh and built of Kevlar in Australia by McConaghy. The history of this boat has been linked since 2004 with that of the De Luca brothers (famous not only for their competitive achievements but also for the famous OneSails sailmaker). Aua De Luca, who passed away 10 years ago, was very attached to this 24-meter hull, when it was still called Alexia. When Alexia was put up for sale in the early 2000s, Aua had made an unsuccessful effort to find a good owner who could take care of this jewel. So after his death, thirty friends (including brothers Dede and Mafio) fulfilled Asa’s dream by buying the boat in 2004, returning it to sailing and renaming it OurDream.
