Dainese is forgetting about its centaur and skier friends for a moment to devote itself to sailors:
you guessed it right, the historic Italian brand (specializing in the production of protective clothing, particularly for motorcycling, mountain biking, downhill skiing and horseback riding) lands aboard the AC45 (and then AC50) Emirates Team New Zealand for the 2017 America’s Cup. It does so with the brand new Sea-Guard, a special life jacket that the crew will wear during races. A golden opportunity to enter a new sector for the Molvena (Vicenza)-based brand.

What is it specifically about? Sea-guard, which is fully ergonomic, is designed to combine protective and life-saving functions. Dainese is also collecting and analyzing data to equip the life jacket with D-air, the protection system that detects dangerous situations and automatically inflates special airbags around the athlete’s body. Originally created for world champion motorcyclists, the D-air system was later developed-in collaboration with the FIS-for professional skiers and is now officially used in the World Cup Series.

Behind this partnership is definitely the hand of Max Sirena, an ETNZL manager with technical and sports expertise: “The AC50s,” he said, “are as advanced as it gets in the sport of sailing in terms of technology and performance. These boats will be able to reach speeds never seen before so safety on board has become a key aspect of preparation. Having an innovative and reliable partner like Dainese by our side undoubtedly gives us an extra edge. Since my childhood I have been passionate about motorcycles so it was a real pleasure for me to welcome Dainese to the team today…”
