Big party in Finland for Nautor’s Swan’s 50th anniversary: two “icing on the cake” for the historic shipyard during the celebrations.
NEW GLORY FOR SWAN NUMBER ONE
The first was the completion of the full refit of the first boat launched in 1966, the Swan 36 Tarantella, made of fiberglass, an innovative material at the time. The restoration was also possible thanks to the work of the craftsmen who built her 50 years ago. “They came to the shipyard and asked us to repair her for free,” said Leonardo Ferragamo, president of Nautor’s Swan. The boat will resume racing at the Oras Swan Turku 50th Anniversary Regatta and the Rolex Swan Cup in Porto Cervo (Sept. 12-18)
CLUBSWAN 50 SHOWS ITSELF TO THE PUBLIC
The other was the first “public appearance” of the new ClubSwan 50: this is not just – they let the shipyard know – a celebratory model, but a boat that very precisely defines Swan’s penchant for innovative, exclusive and high-performance designs that can lead the way for both the brand and the market in general. Designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian, the Argentine architect famous for bringing the “edge” back into vogue (victorious in the 2005-06 Volvo Ocean Race with ABN Amro, characteristic on ultrafast boats such as, for example, the recent Rambler 88), the new 50′, conceived to be classy, is a concentrate of innovative design and materials without, however, losing those lines that characterize boats branded with the “swan” and ease of handling. The Club Swan 50 class will follow the helmsman-owner rule and can count on a circuit of international regattas in Europe, North America and Asia.
WHAT ELSE IS BOILING IN THE POT?
In addition to the ClubSwan 50, the shipyard has just delivered two Swan 115s (the third will be ready in November) and recently launched its new bluewater cruiser, the Swan 54: but there is more to come. The new Swan 78 and other models to be announced soon are also taking shape.
