For years, the problem of berths along the Italian coast has seemed an insurmountable dilemma: overflowing facilities and sky-high costs in every season. Now it seems that things are really changing. To understand more about it, we analyzed the report by Assomarinas (the Italian Association of Tourist Ports, www.marinas.it), also presented to the Chamber of Deputies, regarding the Italian port situation.
MANY NEW BERTHS
In particular, we focused on berths under construction: mind you, we are not necessarily talking about new ports, but in many cases they are expansions and modernizations of existing facilities.
Let’s start with the total: there are over 19,000 (19,359 to be precise) places currently under construction. It should come as no surprise that leading this “ranking” are the southern Italian regions and islands, with more than 10,690 new berths on the launch pad: precisely in the most touristy regions there is still plenty of room for marina expansion. Just over 4,000 places, on the other hand, are under construction in central Italy, to which we must add 4530 in northern Italy.
Among the individual regions, it is Sicily that is expected to see the greatest development of recreational boating in the coming years, with as many as 3880 new berths divided among nine facilities located throughout the territory. And it should not end there: more than 100 new facilities are being planned, totaling more than 50,000 additional berths. But for these we will have to wait.

Ernest Shackleton, the Relentless. This is who one of the greatest sea heroes in history was
Some time ago a U.S. magazine asked its readers who they thought was the greatest navigator of all time. Perhaps you would expect the likes of Joshua Slocum, Tabarly or at the limit, if you are nostalgic, Christopher Columbus. But
