Dear sailors, undecided about what to do this weekend? Do you want to go for two edges but are uncertain about the weather? We asked for help from Riccardo Ravagnan, Forecast & Services Manager at Meteomed, who revealed what the weather will be like along the Italian coast. Here is his “bulletin” for tomorrow (Saturday, May 11), Sunday and the first days of next week: be especially careful on Sunday, mistral and south-westerly winds coming in!
WHAT THE WEATHER WILL BE LIKE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS
“Stormy weekend with a change in circulation and return of Tramontana and Mistral. The entry of a low pressure, fed by cold currents, will trigger winds in cyclonic rotation that will be replaced by the Mistral by the end of the week. Days still decidedly not spring-like!
TENDENCY: The beginning of the week will see the vortex remain over southern Italy and very slowly migrate eastward. This shift will be caused by the continued inflow of cool currents. So instability in the early days of the week. Between Wednesday and Thursday the vortex will be positioned over the Balkans, and pressure over Italy will begin to strengthen. I do not rule out some variability, in trend, which could lead to some phenomena breaking away from the mountains and reaching the coasts. Temperature still below average.
WINDS: Generally weak to moderate winds with a westerly quadrant dominant over much of the central and western Mediterranean on Saturday, but by evening a marked strengthening of the mistral winds is expected from the Gulf of Lion, Ligurian Sea, and Corsican Sea. Sunday strong or very strong mistral winds between Gulf of Lion, Balearic Sea, Sea of Corsica, Sea and Channel of Sardinia, Tyrrhenian Sea and Channel of Sicily. Sharply strengthening southwest and southwest winds over the Ionian and southern Adriatic sectors.
SEA: Generally shallow or locally wavy offshore over the entire Mediterranean on Saturday, but by evening a marked increase in swell is expected over the Gulf of Lion, Ligurian Sea, and Sea of Corsica. Sunday very rough to rough Gulf of Lion, Balearic Sea, Sea of Corsica, Sea and Channel of Sardinia, Tyrrhenian Sea and Channel of Sicily. Slightly wavy to wavy in the Ionian and southern Adriatic sectors with further increasing swell.”
