Ambrogio Beccaria had pointed him out as one of the most formidable opponents (Read our interview HERE ) and Felix De Navacelle is indeed proving to be a very tough bone in this first leg of the Mini Transat. True, Beccaria on Geomag was in the lead for most of the race, but he is now in second position, overtaken by the Frenchman. The two skippers both sail on a Pogo 3 and both are North Sails sailors, so two similar boats in every way.
The head of the fleet, with less than 200 miles to go to Las Palmas, is negotiating a most difficult weather situation: the Azores anticyclone has been crushed southward by a depression, and the arrival in the Canary Islands will be dramatically to negotiate with the Russian roulette of breezes.
Navacelle leads by 3 miles, positioned farther east, Beccaria chases from the west from where a few knots of air may enter in the next few hours. The endings of this first stage are as uncertain and suspenseful as ever.
Among the proto Matteo Sericano is in seventh place, Luca Rosetti 17th. Among the series: Marco Buonanni 41st, Alessio Campriani 54th, Daniele Nanni 56m0, for Luigi Dubini momentary tracker problems are reported and he cannot be located.
