Tomorrow, June 8, is World Oceans Day: We also want to celebrate our little ocean, the Mediterranean Sea. And we want to do that by protecting him.
Already, there are many plastic hunters who are out and about in our seas picking up whatever waste they encounter on their way. Look, for example, at the haul of Timothy Lucie-Smith, one of the most ardent supporters of Medplastic, the association we created in defense of the Mediterranean:
Or the “deck” our own Eriona Skipperina took to clean up the cliffs in Polignano a Mare, Apulia:
Or again, Fabrizio Olmi of the Paralympic sailing team, pictured here with a small table, or what’s left of it, plucked from the waters of Punta Ala during a training session!
Do as they do! Participate in Medplastic’s 2019 “No Plastic” Contest!
The rules are below, the competition is open!
- You have from now until the end of September to take a photo (or record a video) every time you see, collect or prevent litter at sea.
- Send it to the @giornaledellavela inbox on Instagram (or post it to the Medplastic Team Facebook group): remember to include where and when the photo was taken (or video shot) and to include the hashtags #medplastic and #savethemed.
- The image and videos will be posted on the Sail Newspaper’s Instagram profile, and from the photos with the most “likes,” the GdV jury will choose the best three. The authors will be honored at the 2020 TAG Heuer VELAFestival!
Among all those who send us their photo testimonials documenting the collection of floating garbage at sea, or on the beach, we will reward the three most “active” ones.
