The right occasion is the first leg of the 2021 TAG Heuer VELA Cup circuit, in Chiavari, capital of the Gulf of Tigullio, on the weekend of June 5/6.
Two days in which, in one of Italy’s most beautiful gulfs, dozens of boats compete in two regattas/sailings with a fascinating coastal course bounded by the Sestri Levante peninsula and the tip of Portofino, skirting the Santa Margherita Ligure bight.
It is based in Chiavari, in the efficient and convenient Marina Calata Ovest, which offers free mooring to boats arriving from “outside” and are not residents of the Gulf of Tigullio. The city of Chiavari in its scenic Piazza Mazzini, hosts the awards ceremony on Saturday (from 7 p.m.) and Sunday where, complying with all anti Covid regulations, the winners can be celebrated. There will be many, because at the TAG Heuer VELA Cup, “almost” everyone wins.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE TAG HEUER VELA CUP IN CHIAVARI
WHERE AND WHEN. Saturday, June 5 and Sunday, June 6 in Chiavari, capital of the Tigullio Gulf, eastern Liguria.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE. Any type of boat from 4 meters and up, no certicate required. First place wins, with divisions by homogeneous length classes, “cruising” and “racing” categories.
FREE MOORINGS. The West Calata Marina in Chiavari offers free moorings to boats from outside the Tigullio area that participate.
DURATION AND ROUTE. The “Regatta” lasts no longer than three to four hours. The route is coastal, in the Gulf of Tigullio: starting from Chiavari and touching Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino.
THE EQUIPMENT. You do not need to be an experienced sailor to participate.
