weekend weatherWhat will the weather be over the weekend on our coasts? To help you decide whether to go out and “pull two edges,” venture on a small cruise or keep the boat in port, we asked Riccardo Ravagnan, Forecast & Services Manager at Meteomed, for help in revealing what the weather will be like along the Italian coast. Here is his “bulletin”:

THE WEEKEND WEATHER REPORT

SYNOPTICS: Over the weekend, North African high pressure will take over much of the Mediterranean, leading to prevailing fine weather conditions and intensifying heat over the central and western sectors. Report local passing clouds as well as mists or maritime thickening over Alboran Sea, Algerian Basin and Canals.

WINDS: Friday winds still breezy E/ENE between Alboran Sea and Algerian basin, northerly over Aegean and Cretan Seas; up to moderate or at times breezy E/NE over Libyan basin, northerly over eastern Ionian. Saturday tense northerly winds between Aegean and Cretan Seas, east/ENE over Algerian Basin and Alboran Sea. Up to moderate from SSE/south between Canals and western Tyrrhenian. Sunday strong northerly winds over Aegean and Cretan Sea, easterly over Sardinia Channel, Algerian Basin; moderate to tense northerly over Ionian and southern Mediterranean; moderate NW over Tyrrhenian and mid-lower Adriatic.

SEA: Mostly very wavy or locally rough south-central Aegean, Crete Sea, Algerian Basin, and Alboran Sea; tending to wavy or very wavy Channels, Libyan Basin, and remaining eastern Mediterranean. Mostly shallow Italian basins, except for Ionian, eastern Tyrrhenian and Sardinian Seas, which will tend to wavy.
