It all seemed to be over. Armel Le Cleac’h quiet in the Atlantic at the control of “Boss” Alex Thomson. And instead, this Vendée Globe (the nonstop solo round-the-world voyage aboard IMOCA 60s), in its final stages, knows how to deliver excitement. He made up for it again, the skipper of Hugo Boss: in just 9 days, he was able to reduce his disadvantage from 800 to 54 miles and now undermines Banque Populaire VIII. Armel Le Cleac’h encountered an anticyclone that slowed him down with 5,000 miles to go, off southern Brazil, but meteorology is not enough to explain Thomson’s incredible comeback.
BUT WHAT IF HE HADN’T BROKEN THE FOIL?
The Englishman evidently went back to exploiting the only foil he had left but there are many on the web who suspect that the Englishman may have lied about his breakdown (very few photos from aboard, boat skidded during video shooting in front of the Kerguelen perhaps to hide just the starboard foil): this was for pre-tactical reasons. If so, his mind would be truly diabolical!
LET THE CHALLENGE BEGIN. AGAIN.
Anyway, gentlemen and gentlemen, let the challenge begin again, while everyone else stands by and watches (Jeremie Beyou, third place aboard Maitre Coq, is more than 1,000 miles behind. Jackal Le Cleac’h versus Boss Thomson. Who are you rooting for?
