The J80 Class One-design Boat National Championship returns to Chiavari after a 4-year absence Sept. 24-27. Chiavari can be considered somewhat of a home base for the J80 fleet. The Blue Project company, which owns most of the J/80s, has chosen this beautiful Ligurian town as its port of call. Blue Project, a racing sailboat rental specialist, is providing a fleet of nine J80s for the event, all identical and all equipped with the same set of North Sails sails. For those who have never tried it, the J80 is the most exciting of J Boats’ one-designs, featuring a telescoping bowsprit, asymmetrical spi, and a large cockpit relative to the size of the boat. In short, it is an extremely fun and high-performance small yacht. Try it to believe it!
The class, which boasts large numbers and a large audience of aficionados abroad, is also growing in Italy. Competing for the title of National Champion will be 11 of the best and fiercest crews, of assiduously participate in national and international competitions. Therefore, a very high competitive level is expected.
MANY IMPORTANT NAMES
As it was last year, champions and famous names from the sailing world are expected to participate in this edition, they have already confirmed James Loro Piana e Stefano Polti, Who will challenge the class regulars Massimo Rama, Paolo Montedonico and Anne-Soizic Bertin, tactician of Blue Project (2nd at the Melges 24 World Championship). The Championship will take place on September 25-26-27 and is organized by Yacht Club Chiavari ASD in cooperation with Blue Project and the National J80 Class Association. Joining Blue Project is sponsor Chanteclair with its new Vert line of 100% biodegradable eco-detergents. In fact, at the time of registration, all participants will receive a race bag containing Chanteclair Vert high-performance washing products, also great for boats, but with reduced environmental impact and with 100% biodegradable packaging, just as Blue Project and all those who care about the environment and especially the ‘natural habitat of sailing, namely the sea.
Started today, the regattas will continue on Saturday and Sunday. At the end of the trials, the awards ceremony will be held and the 2015 J/80 Class National Champion title will be awarded. May the best win and good wind to all!
