A few weeks ago we told you about the launching of the new ICE 70 RS the latest from the Salvirola shipyard, a sporty evolution of the more cruise ICE 70, designed by Umberto Felci. We went to Varazze, Liguria, to try it out right after the launch. The day was ideal for testing a sportscaster, with a west around 12-15 knots topped with a short but not annoying wave.

Ice 70 RS – The Sea Test
The conditions were ideal for sailing and testing the various on-board solutions that theICE 70 RS offers, such as the adjustment controls at the helmsman’s console. From here we control the mainsail luff, moving it upwind and downwind, as well as the mainsheet and headsail adjustment, including the jib halyard.
One needs to become familiar with the adjustments; we are on a 70-footer anyway, and with automatic maneuvers one must always be careful since we move very large loads with a small button. Under sail, the boat shows controlled power, due in part to the deep keel at significant draft. Upwind the best number read was 9.4 speed at 35 degrees apparent to wind.
