Going sailing — to get a scholarship to a prestigious university in the United States: is the idea behind the new International Junior Sailing Academy College Placement project, the study and sailing program devised by IJSA (an acronym for International Junior Sailing Academy of Brenzone sul Garda) with the support of the European Sailing Federation to enter the American college circuit ICSA (Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association of North America). The initiative is aimed at youth class sailors who wish to continue their sporting activities and obtain a scholarship for university studies in the US.
HOW “COLLEGE PLACEMENT” WORKS
One of the main goals of the IJSA program is to guide students, through constant counseling and check-ups on competitive and scholastic activity, toward achieving athletic careers at prestigious universities in the U.S. and around the World. After an initial assessment carried out by the whole IJSA team on the student (specific demands, personality, medium and long-term goals both sports and school), the personalized program to be offered even at a distance is decided, so that the athlete can follow the program agreed with the IJSA Team also from his club or federation. The program includes four mandatory clinics of 4 days each each year to check the level the athlete has achieved. Athletic and scholastic preparation will be based specifically on U.S. college selection criteria. This will be followed by the search for the most suitable college by athletic and academic level. The next development will be of a long-term program to reach the necessary athletic and academic level in agreement with the athlete’s family, club and federation. IJSA will follow up with recruiters and give total support in the college relationship and application process.
FULL-TIME PACKAGE
The offer includes, as part of the College Placement program, the possibility for athletes to study at the Sacra Famiglia Institute in Castelletto di Brezone (VR), live in the boarding school, and train consistently with Team IJSA (which has flourishing professionals: among others, Olympian Federica Salvà and outfielder Luca Bursic). A program that combines school, training (both on the water and in the gym) and racing. A great commitment to becoming a level-headed sailor and student, opening new avenues for the future.
