They will be the “Caribbean” format, the wild and immersed location, the free ferry to and from Olbia, the fact remains that the TAG Heuer VELA Cup of Caprera (Monday, Aug. 26), organized with the friends of Centro Velico Caprera, Italy’s most famous sailing school, is attracting many enthusiasts who have already signed up. Among them, also many great sailors, whom you can challenge at sea during the sail and get to know ashore, between beers and a game on the beach (by the way, we are preparing an unmissable ‘schedule’!).

ANDREA MURA: “I WILL PARTICIPATE IN ‘MOOD’ CRUISE”
“I’m so ready, I can’t wait,” Andrea Mura, the great sailor from Cagliari (as well as our 2014 Sailor of the Year), told us, two Ostar wins, one Route du Rhum win, as well as Cup experience on the Moro di Venezia. “I will be at the VELA Cup with my wife Daniela and my one-year-old son Lucas. Vento di Sardegna (the open 50 Mura, ed.) is in ‘cruising’ configuration for the summer and the sail is the right opportunity for me to have fun. By the way, can you also participate with a barbecue on board?”
VINCENZO ONORATO AND HIS “BOYS”
Another Sailor of the Year has also fallen in love with the VELA Cup to the point of offering free ferry rides to participants: Vincenzo Onorato (who won the award in 2007), patron of Moby, Tirrenia and Toremar, who loves sailing madly.
“I will be there with three of my Latin Rascals, definitely with the Swan 38 and the 65 and one other. And I’m taking the kids from my sailing school with me.” Kids often from difficult situations that the Mascalzone Latino sailing school removes from street life. Sailing is a great means of social redemption.
SIMONE CAMBA’S BEAUTIFUL IDEA
This is also demonstrated by the experience of sailor Simone Camba’s New Sardiniasail association, which we told you about here. Simone will be at the VELA Cup with his G34 Lima Fotodinamico, carrying boys who have had problems with the law in the past and are now facing a path to recovery by becoming sailors. “I will be very happy to be there,” he told us, “together with our collaborators Francesco Cerina and Francesco Cappelletti and the guys from the Legality Route.”
Francesco Cappelletti is another well-known name, as he was the only Italian to take part in the Golden Globe Race, the solo race around the world on “vintage” boats. And this is not his first VELA Cup; he participated in the Marina di Pisa leg in 2017 before setting off on his round-the-world trip.
