The Fora Marine shipyard, manufacturer of the RMs, boats known for their build quality and a design philosophy that could be described as “out of the box,” has new ownership. This was announced in an official note to the press by the construction site itself. Rumors about a change of ownership and a hypothetical crisis had been chasing frequently over the past year. The new owner is the Grand Large Yachting group, which adds the RM brand to a stable that already includes Allures Yachting, Garcia Yachts, Outremer and Gunboat.
THE COMMENT.
On February 12, the Bordeaux Commercial Court validated the acquisition of the RM shipyard by the Grand Large Yachting group. Founded in 2003 by Xavier Desmarest and Stéphan Constance, Grand Large Yachting is France’s fourth-largest yacht builder. Over the years, the group has consolidated 4 iconic yachting brands (Allures Yachting, Garcia Yachts, Outremer, Gunboat) and developed them brilliantly.
Stéphan Constance, President of Grand Large Yachting Group: “We are very happy and excited that RM is joining the group. RM is a unique nautical brand in France, with strong strengths, original technology and a culture of innovation. The RM1180’s Sailboat of the Year award for 2020 is clear proof of this. Our ambition is to continue to work around the “RM DNA” and capitalize on 30 years of history, bringing our know-how in terms of production and international sales. ”
“Our short-term priority is to contact all customers who have placed an RM order and restart production. At Grand Large, we tend to consider that the relationship is not limited to sales. This is a philosophy I intend to apply to RM,” says Luca Tessitore, RM’s new CEO.
