We are introducing you to the 30 legends of sailing. Now it’s your turn to choose the greatest sailor of all time.
Born in Milan on May 16, 1966, he is the most famous Italian sailor. He made his first Atlantic crossing at age 16. In ’89 he won the ARC, in 1996 he triumphed at Ostar among the 50-footers and at Quebec-Saint Malo. Among sailors he is a legend. Media fame comes in the 1998-99 edition of the Around Alone (solo round-the-world race in stages), in which Soldini participates aboard the 60-footer Fila: the victory takes a back seat to the Milanese sailor’s act of great sportsmanship;
John rescues Isabelle Autissier, who capsized in the middle of the Pacific and was far from any possibility of rescue operations due to the weather conditions. Then many victories, solo and doubles. In 2013, he set off again to roam the oceans with the VOR 70 Maserati, now launching on the multi 70s, again with Maserati as a partner.
Because: Giovanni Soldini is a legend for sailors: among Italian ocean sailors, he is the one who has won the most.
