A curious story that of Gianin VI, a 1976 Hallberg Rassy 41 (1963 design) resurrected by its owner who found it abandoned with a shoe inside a frying pan, mixed with a stinking garlic, oil and chili paste. Now Gianin VI is a wonderful boat that has allowed itself to win the most important long race in the Mediterranean, the Giraglia, twice, putting behind many latest generation boats with great satisfaction.

This year, in addition to being one of the boats nominated for the award Sailor of the Year (award to be presented during the evening of Friday, May 6, the event is open to all starting at 7 p.m.), will be on the dock as queen of the CULT #plasticfantastic where she will celebrate her first 40 years together with her owner, the entire crew and friends. And on Sunday, May 8, at 2 p.m., she will also be among the stars of the
#plasticfantastic Tribute

This is the “tear-jerking” account given to us by Ciccio Supparo, the owner in love with Gianin VI, : “I bought the boat in Lavagna in “86 from an English gentleman who had completely wrecked it and abandoned it there the year before. In a drawer in the aft cabin I found a single shoe inside a pan of garlic, oil and chili with leftover pasta….! ( this can be taken as an image of the state of the boat …). It was raining inside as it was outside, water was just below the dunnage, the engine had blown up due to lack of fresh water in the exchanger, the “”black”” tanks were full, no toilet was working, etc….. Outside deformed hatches, ruined deck, moldy and burst sails… Structurally, though, the boat looked sound and I paid 50,000 pounds for it, that is, at that time Lit. 99,750,000, which was little, also because I had nothing else. ( current value if in order Lit. 180 M approx. ) I came from : dinghy of mt 2.30 ( I was 14 years old ), other of mt 3.10. Zodiac Mk 2 ( 7000 mg ), Zodiac Mk 3 ( 5000 mg ), Dinghy Bat 10 mt 5.60 ( legendary…8000 mg ) , speedboat Akis CB mt, 6.20 ( mg. 15000 ), Dutch pilot boat 32′ slow ( at 9 knts 36,000 mg. today in San Remo in semi-disarmament … ) these last two of my father with whom I used to sail. GIANIN, is the Hallberg Rassy 41 no. 39 of 1976 of 104 built, the last in 1989. Today she displaces in sailing trim ( ..with wine ) about 16 tons while the shipyard talked about 11.5 and the previous English tiller 14.75. I live there on weekends and sail there as soon as I can. We did the Giraglia in 2004 ( 53rd overall ) and the Hallberg Rassy regattas in 2005 ( 3rd ) and 2006 ( 5th ) as well as regattas with the Brothers of the Coast, in Tigullio, and … of pizza.. Then the two great satisfactions : two victories in ORC no less than at the long of the GIRAGLIA, in 2011 and 2015 ! Plus not in class, but Over All, with countless boats behind in 2015, even in real ! Every year I try to extend my vacation a little bit to experience her a little more in the summer, because with Her ( the capital letter came naturally to me ) … I just fit right in ! Anyway the boat is not made for upwind, nor for the wave formed bow, but as soon as you widen, and from there on, it’s like being in a warm and friendly slipper … and for that … I love her!!! Today the boat is “”old”” and as much as you may love it, it can’t be worth much anymore, ( over the years I have spent far more in renovations alone ) but, also for this reason, but especially because it is now in the family,…. will not sell ! GIANIN, my beloved floating girlfriend, accept a wish of “GOOD WIND” from Your loving owner !”
