Taking a hand of reefers in the stern with 30 knots of wind under spinnaker? You can and do not need to lower the spi or go into the wind, you can continue to keep the same gait, just take advantage of the apparent wind. What does it mean? When the boat under spinnaker starts in the surf touching 12-15 knots, with a real wind of 28-30 knots we will have an apparent 13-15 on the sails and thus a largely lower load. Just when the boat starts surfing a wave is the time to open the mainsail halyard and let it down just enough to catch the reefing hand, like the crew in this video. The faster the boat sterns, the less pressure it will have on the sails.
