The Gc 32 class is back in the air for the 2017 season, which opens in Muscat, Oman, with the GC32 Championship, scheduled through March 5. There are 11 teams in the regatta, representing 9 nations: Switzerland (two teams, Alinghi and Team Tilt), USA, Great Britain, Oman, Austria, Denmark (two teams, Sap Extreme and Youth Vikings), Germany, France and New Zealand. Crews taking part in the GC32 Championship are Alinghi, Argo (USA), Land Rover BAR (GBR), Oman Air, Red Bull Sailing Team (Austria), SAP Extreme Sailing Team (Denmark), SVB (Germany), Tawera Racing (New Zealand), Team Engie (France), Team Tilt, Youth Vikings.
Funny case of homonymy aboard Team ARGO: in fact, the U.S. crew has announced Chuck Norris in the sailing team’s entry list, obviously he is a professional sailor. Instead, the only Italian competing in this GC32 event will be Neapolitan Pierluigi de Felice, former Luna Rossa man, who will be aboard with SAP Extreme Sailing Team.
THE VIDEO ON BOARD WITH TEAM TILT
Race Committee Chairman John Craig has scheduled up to six races per day with an average duration of 25 minutes, but the forecast for light winds could cause something to vary. Also planned is a long-distance regatta in addition to those between the buoys.
