The sailing world is on the move, and the ferment that has left the America’s Cup seems to offer fertile ground for the emergence of a bit of interesting novelty, on the long wave of the foil revolution that exploded with the AC 75s. Once again it is the Italian Persico Marinethat is the protagonist of a new high-tech project, this time in collaboration with Carkeek Design studio, we are talking about the new F70, a super racer equipped with foil.
“We are extremely pleased to have entered into an agreement with Carkeek Design to offer
to the market a spectacular full-foiling yacht,” said Marcello Persico, president of Persico Marine, who added, “We look forward to working with Shaun Carkeek and his exceptional team. Carkeek Design’s boats proved to be winners-their Ran VII was awarded 2018 World Sailing Boat of the Year. And we are confident that this new 70′ foiler will be a truly innovative yacht,” said Marcello Persico.
“This year, Persico made headlines for its role in the 2021 America’s Cup,” Carkeek Design studio explains in a note. Not only did the shipyard build the two Luna Rossa Challenge boats, but it is also the supplier of the foil booms for all the America’s Cup boats. And our state-of-the-art fullfoiling day racer will take full advantage of Persico Marine’s vast experience.”
Day racer is the key word to tell about this F70. The main foils combined with the T-foils on the rudder are designed to fly the F 70 in 10 knots of true wind. The F 70’s custom foil control and motion systems use the latest technologies developed for the America’s Cup and Imoca 60s to provide safe yet precise flight control in all conditions. Also because in the intentions of the client is also to use the boat for day sailing style outings, the performance of the boat must therefore be combined with not too complex handling.
All composite components will be built in-house at the Persico Marine shipyard, using the latest robotic technology developed by Persico.
To summarize, Marcello Persico draws conclusions from this new challenge while waiting to see the boat in the water in the coming months: “The F 70 was conceived and developed as a robust and versatile yacht for any owner and is therefore equally suitable for day sailing or inshore racing, as well as for a typical 150- to 600-mile race.”
