Ilsa 40

It can hardly be said that the lockdown period has diluted the productive energy of catamaran giant Fountaine Pajot, a shipyard that by the way has also controlled the Dufour brand for over a year now. Coming up in fact are, ahead of the upcoming boat shows starting with the one in Cannes, two new models.

In fact, these two hulls were announced a year ago, and Fountaine Pajot has kept to its schedule: the new Isla 40 and the Samana 59 are about to go in the water and will be the attraction on two hulls in the coming months that the shipyard will offer to its enthusiasts. The former replaces in the range the old Lucia 40, a very successful boat but one that already had a few seasons behind it. The 59, on the other hand, goes to fill an empty segment in the Fountaine range, fitting in between the Saba 50 and the Alegria 67.

No sailing photos of the two catamarans have been released yet, but the shipyard’s circulated drawings tell us of two boats perfectly centered in the family feeling of the range.

For both cat, designed as always by Berret-Racoupeau Yacht Design, the choice was made to keep the net at the bow: an interesting choice, containing the boat’s displacement and improving its center of gravity. No real flybridge is provided for the 40 although the rigging and wheelhouse are elevated above the aft cockpit. Second deck, on the other hand, which is present, almost as if it were a terrace overlooking the sea, in the 59, which also boasts a generous forward cockpit. A sunbathing area is also provided at the bow of the 40.

In both, the aft cockpit is actually completely covered. It meets performance instead the volumetry of the bows, which are quite lean and sharp.

As we wait to see them in the water and get to know them live, the Ilsa 40 and Samana 59 look like two modern cruising catamarans that will strengthen Fountaine’s already strong position in the charter and luxury cruising catamaran market.
