We Italians usually sin in foreignness, but this time we want to be parochial. The 80 finalist photos for the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image of the Year, the prestigious competition reserved for professional photographers with sailing as their main theme, have been selected: among them are four taken by Italians. We cheer for them: they are Mauro Melandri, Martina Orsini, Gianfranco Forza and Gianluca Di Fazio. Since you can also vote, you have until November 20. (DO IT HERE), Why not lend them a hand? CASH PRIZES
Starting this year, the organizers have decided to include cash prizes: 1,000 euros to the winner of the Mirabaud Yacht Racing Image, chosen by an international jury of photographers; 500 euros for the Yacht Racing Forum Award, decided by the 700 delegates of the World Sailing (ex-ISAF) annual conference and 300 delegates of the Yacht Racing Forum; and finally, another 500 euros for the Public Award, based on the number of votes received by the nominated photos on the Internet.
HOW THE CONTEST WORKS
The pre-selection of the 80 finalist photos (voting on the www.yachtracingimage.com since Oct. 18) took place By a panel of international sailing photographers (Christian Février, Rick Tomlinson and Erik Brin), while the top 20 images according to the international jury will be exhibited at both the World Sailing annual conference (Nov. 5-13, Barcelona) and the Yacht Racing Forum (Nov. 28-29, Malta), where the winners will be announced.
