At 5:05 a.m., the skipper of the MOD70 Musandam Oman Sail, Frenchman Sydney Gavignet, launched a MOB (Man Over Board, man overboard) signal off the Croatian coast (position: 44° 32′ 98N – 014° 02′ 50E). 26-year-old Mohammed Al Alawi fell into the water and so far, despite searches by the Italian and Croatian coast guards, he has not been found.
The wind speed at the time of falling into the sea was 15-17 knots. Mohammed’s family has been notified and the entire Oman Sail team, reads a very brief press release, is rallying around her in these moments of terrible uncertainty. Updates will follow.
