grand soleil 39FOR GREAT CRUISING – GRAND SOLEIL 39
Beautiful, beautiful. To paraphrase a famous advertisement, Cantiere del Pardo’s 12-meter boat, designed by Alain Jezequel, is “the Italians’ most beloved boat” because of its practicality and elegance. Produced between 1983 and 1990, it is still the “queen” of the used car. Its shapes are inspired by Nautor’s Finnish hulls: indeed, in international circles the GS 39 is nicknamed the “Spaghetti Swan.”

first407THE IDEAL REGATTA/CRUISE – FIRST 40.7
Yet another 11.99-meter-long Bruce Farr masterpiece, the Beneteau First 40.7 is not just a sailboat; it constitutes a true design philosophy. Along with the reliability and comfort that the hull is able to provide in cruising, in racing it plays it safe with “pulled” boats. You’ll find First 40.7s everywhere from the dumpling regatta to the Fastnet. Produced from 1998 to 2008, with 600 units sold, it owes its success to its formidable value for money.

mumm 30TO HAVE A FUN FAMILY DAY – MUMM 30
They are now called the Farr 30, named after the designer, but the Mumm 30 experienced good success between 1994, when it was launched as a one-design, until the arrival of the Melges. Nine meters long, with a carbon mast and wafer-thin appendages, it has been featured in breathtaking circuits. The Mumm 36 (a boat that, in terms of circulation, compared to the 30, reaped poor results) Mumm A Mia helmed by Tommaso Chieffi and Capricorno, led by Flavio Favini won the ’95 Admiral’s in teaming up with Pasquale Landolfi’s Brava.

Super MaramuIF YOU WANT TO GO FAR – SUPER MARAMU
Produced by the French shipyard Amel from 1988 to 1998, the first Super Maramu model certainly set a record for longevity and beyond, with 230 examples sold (not bad for a 16-meter). It is the classic “comfortable boat,” toward which thoroughbred sailors have often directed criticism for technological interpretations such as furling jibs and electric mainsail furlers: it is the production hull with the most world tours under its belt. Of the Super Maramu 2000, an evolution of the boat, in production from 1998 to 2005, 260 were sold!

starTO FEEL LIKE AN OLYMPIC CHAMPION – STAR
One hundred and five years of life for the “queen” of sailing. Born in 1911 from the pencil of William Gardner, on a naval study by Francis Sweisguth, it is the quintessential Olympic class, where sailors of the caliber of Paul Cayard, Lowell North, Dennis Conner, Tom Blackaller, Torben Grael, Mark Reynolds, Buddy Melges and our own great Agostino Straulino have competed. The list could go on. The secret of the Star? Its extreme technicality: to excel aboard this 6.91-meter-long double one must possess the right mix of technique, tactics, strategy and physique. ISAF kicked her out of the Olympic medals starting in Rio. Incomprehensible choice.
