The time for the official unveiling of Beneteau’s new First 53 scheduled for the 2019 fall boat shows is approaching, and meanwhile the shipyard is releasing new details about the boat and its features.
The first images confirm what had already been anticipated by the designers, namely a boat with a strong sporting soul, aiming for significant performance, without losing sight of the other focus of the project, namely the cruising dimension.
The draft will have two options, 2.5 m or 3 m (with a lead bulb), as well as an optional carbon mast, to give the First 53 the ability to be competitive in racing while accumulating miles quickly when cruising.
“The First 53 is very much like me,” said Robert Biscontini, who has long experience in the America’s Cup world. “To get the most excitement at the helm, we focused on balancing weight and balance under sail. We worked hard to optimize the position of the center of buoyancy in relation to the center of
effort, ensuring a lively sailboat that responds quickly to the helm. We asked top outfitters to provide their high-performance materials: North Sails for the sails, Harken for deck equipment, Lorima for the mast, and Lemer for the keel.
They were all involved in the recent design of the Figaro BENETEAU 3.”
