Take a sailor who is passionate about racing and speed, add a shipyard that is a forerunner in all things trendy and cutting-edge in the sailing world. The result is the new Wally 93 of which the first renderings have just been made public. The hull lines are thoroughly modern with the maximum beam positioned aft and generous interior volumes. As the essence of the most current cruiser racer wants: comfortable and fast. A sum of all high-tech trends applied to the sailing world. The new Wally 93 exactly reflects the Monegasque canitere’s DNA of combining comfort and performance, a perfect synthesis between a performance cruiser and a racing boat that is especially striking for its extremely clean deck, full of free space for life aboard and for which the term flush deck is little more than an understatement.
NAVAL ARCHITECTURE
The new Wally 93 is a custom design born of Wally’s collboration with designer Judel Vrolijk certainly influenced by the lines of the Wally 107 Open Season (formerly wallycento Hamilton) and those of the Maxui 72s designed by Vrolijk. A very light boat (displacement is only 35.5 tons) and a better displacement/sail area ratio than the Wallycento. All weights are concentrated amidships to reduce pitching as much as possible. The lifting keel allows the draft to be increased from 4.5 to 6.2 meters to optimize the righting moment and consequently the boat’s upwind performance. The design is designed to be the most competitive in the Wally class: a boat that is very powerful upwind and optimized for medium-light wind conditions, capable of starting to plane in 16 knots of wind and exceeding true wind speed with ease.
DECK AND INTERIOR
As we have already mentioned, the extremely clean deck plan is one of the workhorses of this boat: the lines integrate perfectly with the cockpit, making it almost disappear along with all the on-board maneuvers. Internally, the living room enjoys great privacy and is separated from the passage to the outside. The owner’s area is located forward of the salon, while the two guest cabins are located aft. This is just to give you a preview, because the interior design is still under development.
CONSTRUCTION
The new Wally 93 is currently under construction and will implement the most advanced technologies in the composite world by using unidirectional high-modulus carbon fibers to ensure maximum displacement containment and structural rigidity. The boat is scheduled to be launched in summer 2018 and will make its race course debut at the 2018 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.
