The Fast 40+ Class has taken off in the Anglo-Saxon world, meeting the need for racing among boats that are homogeneous in length and characteristics. The reference to the Level Classes of yesteryear is much more than a hint, albeit in a distinctly modern key. The Fast 40+ Class is open to monohulls with a hull length between 12 meters and 12.60 meters, and a maximum width of 4.35 meters with a draught of no more than 3 meters.
THE BOATS.
The class rules allow boats with a displacement-to-length ratio (DLR) of less than 90 for newly built boats and a maximum of 110 for existing boats: thus light displacement projects. As for boats launched before September 1, 2015, the maximum length can increase to 12.85 mt. The Fast 40+ Class races under the IRC formula, admitting designs with a TCC between 1,210 and 1,270.
CREW AND HELMSMAN
The number of crew members is 11, with a weight not to exceed 950 kg. This is an owner-driver class and there can be 5 professionals allowed on board.
